Job Summary

MUSC Children’s Health After Hours Care Nexton is a pediatric outpatient clinic under the Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital ing the day we host a variety of pediatric subspecialists such as pediatric pulmonary, GI, endocrinology, ENT, and cardiology, and in addition we provide a walk‑in After Hours Care that extends our pediatric emergency department to serve the community when most pediatricians are closed.

Hours of Operation:
Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM;
Weekends & Holidays: 11:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

This is a full‑time position consisting of two 12‑hour shifts (8:00 AM – 8:30 PM) and two 8‑hour shifts per week, including every other weekend.

Example Schedule (alternating weeks):

• Week 1:
  Monday & Tuesday – 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM, Wednesday – 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM, Saturday – 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM
• Week 2:
  Sunday – 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday – 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM, Thursday & Friday – 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM, Weekend – Off

Provide nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation). Lead and direct assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age‑appropriate care. Deliver patient/family‑centered care focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental needs. Conduct assessments, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, teach health promotion, and evaluate goals. Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, ensure patient privacy, and practice respectful, professional behavior.

Participate in shared governance, adhere to standards of care, contribute to peer review and professional development, and promote leadership and clinical excellence. Coordinate efficient delivery of patient care services, identify clinical priorities, and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years.
• Minimum one year of work experience as a registered nurse.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking vitals, administering injections, or conducting examinations.
• Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
• Visual acuity and color perception to read medical charts and monitors accurately.
• Auditory ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues and to perceive important sounds such as alarms.
• Stamina and resilience to handle long shifts and stressful situations.
• Mobility to navigate clinical environments.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
