Nurse Specialist Oncology
Job Description

The Oncology Nurse Specialist is an experienced RN responsible for managing the oncology provider's patient caseload and coordinating care across the Cancer Center. This role serves as the primary liaison between the provider, interdisciplinary team and patients, ensuring seamless communication, treatment coordination, and continuity of care. With a higher level of responsibility and autonomy, the Oncology Nurse Specialist provides advanced clinical coordination, patient education, symptom triage and care navigation throughout the cancer care continuum.

The RN collaborates with infusion nursing, pharmacy and supportive services to optimize patient outcomes and experience and participates in required medical surveillance related to hazardous drug exposure.

ADN, RN License State of IL, BLs or CPR within 90 days of hire

Pay:
Based on experience, starting at $37.23

Responsibilities

Anticipates provider needs by ensuring appropriate clinical documentation, orders and care plans are in place., Assesses symptoms, treatment related toxicities and urgent concerns; escalates appropriately to providers or directs patients to the correct level of care., Assists with development, implementation and evaluation of oncology-specific workflows, protocols and standing orders., Assists with tumor board preparation, case coordination and follow up tracking, as assigned.,

Coordinates oncology care across multiple disciplines including medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology, infusion, support services and subspecialties., Coordinates symptom management interventions in collaboration with physicians and APPs., Facilitates timely scheduling of diagnostic testing, procedures, consultations and appointments. Supports complex follow-up coordination of care., Manage and maintain provider schedules to optimize access, continuity and efficient patient flow., Participate in quality improvement initiatives, performance monitoring and pathway development related to best practices.,

Performs complex clinical triage for incoming patient calls, portal messages and new referrals, using oncology specific protocols and clinical judgement., Provides high-level patient education related to diagnosis, treatment plans, symptom management and follow up expectations., Serves as a clinical liaison between providers, nursing staff, schedules and ancillary departments., Serves as a clinical resource and mentor for oncology nursing staff and support personnel.,

Supports care transitions across the continuum including diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship or palliative care.

Requirements

ADN, BSNBLS or CPR certification (within 90 days of hire) - Sarah Bush Lincoln, RN-Registered Nurse - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

Compensation Estimated Compensation Range

$37.23 - $57.71
