Summary
National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Summerville, SC market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the CISV Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5‑5000 kW. Troubleshooting and repair of Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed transition types.
- Perform preventative maintenance service (oil and filters), troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components as necessary, perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and start‑up/commission new generator systems.
- Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair (ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, etc.).
- Conduct load‑bank testing on generators to ensure units operate within specified conditions and meet applicable code requirements.
- Assist other technicians with large multi‑person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues.
- HS Diploma required;
Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred. - Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
- US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); able to give job status, repair recommendations, and equipment/supply reports.
- Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
- Excellent driving record, valid driver’s license; willingness to drive long distances and stay overnight in hotels as required.
- Good computer skills; comfortable using Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF.
- Responsible for vehicle maintenance, parts inventory, and safeguarding company property (cell phone, laptop, tools).
- Strong customer‑service skills; manage difficult or emotional customer situations and respond promptly to service requests.
- Good problem‑solving skills in emergency and resource‑limited situations.
- Training provided; may need to attend training courses in Milwaukee, WI and elsewhere.
- Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and continuous improvement in work and safety practices.
- May be required to work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
- Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 lbs.
- Ascending/descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps using feet/legs and/or hands/arms.
- Seizing, holding, grasping, turning with hand(s).
- Entering text or data on a computer using a keyboard.
- Pushing/pulling with hands/arms or feet; may require use of one or both sides.
- Moving on hands and knees or hands and feet to enter restricted or confined spaces.
- Operating controls on machinery or equipment (pedals, buttons, levers, cranks). Includes use of vision for small objects/print; possible computer use.
- Sitting for long periods may be required.
- Competitive pay based on experience and certifications; overtime paid at 1.5 × base.
- Three weeks paid vacation after 90 days (first year prorated).
