Job Overview

The Benefit Consultant is responsible for client satisfaction, service delivery, and vendor management while supporting the development of innovative, data-driven strategies to optimize complex Health & Welfare benefit programs.

What You'll Do

Strategy & Program Management

  • Support development and execution of benefit strategies for large, self-funded clients
  • Develop cost-containment strategies across medical, pharmacy, and disability programs
  • Analyze claims/utilization trends and identify improvement opportunities
  • Lead vendor evaluations, RFPs, procurement, implementation, and performance tracking
  • Communicate industry trends, benchmarks, and regulatory updates

Client Management

  • Serve as primary day-to-day client contact and manage vendor relationships
  • Oversee project management for deliverables, compliance deadlines, and annual planning
  • Manage RFP processes, renewals, contract negotiations, and vendor implementations
  • Ensure timely, accurate execution of deliverables with actuarial and internal teams
  • Support compliance (e.g., 5500 filings, plan documents, regulatory adherence)
  • Resolve escalated claims and support employee communications and enrollment activities

Client Relationship & Reporting

  • Partner with clients to define benefit goals and strategies
  • Deliver financial reporting, analysis, and benchmarking insights
  • Review and finalize client reporting deliverables

Business Development & Team Collaboration

  • Assist with new business opportunities and strategy development
  • Contribute to internal process improvements and team initiatives

What You'll Bring

  • 5–10 years of experience in insurance, employee benefits, or HR
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Welfare programs (self-funded medical, Rx, dental, vision, disability, life, absence, etc.)
  • Experience managing large, self-funded clients in consulting or brokerage
  • Full-cycle RFP experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience designing and implementing benefit plans
  • Underwriting experience preferred
  • Insurance license (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Project management and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience with data analysis and self-funded plan financials
  • Knowledge of regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and large data sets
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of professionalism, accountability, and client service focus

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact with executive stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours as needed

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position is $110,000 -$135,000. This range represents the employer's good-faith estimate of the compensation for this role at the time of posting.
