Certified Surgical Technologist - Operating Room Medical Center

Job Description

• Applies principles and practices of asepsis; performs surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedure.
• Assembles all necessary supplies according to requirements of the patient and the surgical procedure.
• Sets up sterile instrument table and prepares supplies according to type of operation; assists in draping of patient and operative area as needed.
• Anticipates needs of the surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies, monitoring progress continuously.
• Makes and maintains accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse; reports any discrepancies per policy.
• Maintains aseptic technique at all times, instituting corrective measures when contamination occurs.
• Assists in care, handling, and disposition of specimens per policy.
• Inspects instruments, trays, and packages to ensure sterility, completeness, and lack of bioburden; verifies instrument functionality before use.
• Receives and labels solutions and medications on the sterile field; verifies them with an RN team member.
• Participates in the Universal Protocol (Sign‑in, Time‑out, Sign‑out) as per policy.
• Participates in Fire Risk Assessment; ensures fire safety measures are met and communicated.
• Demonstrates and understands use of all equipment in patient care areas; reports malfunctioning equipment immediately and requests removal and sequestration.
• Maintains sharps safety measures in handling, transfer, and disposal; directs team members in safe handling within the sterile field.
• Maintains an organized sterile back table; follows point‑of‑use instrument cleaning standards, using pre‑cleansing solution before delivery to SPD decontamination.
• Assists with cleanup in the OR as necessary.
• Maintains safety measures at all times.
• Maintains professional working relationships with all team members.
• Continuously updates professional and technical knowledge through continuing education and unit mandates; achieves and maintains professional ST certification as required.
• Contributes to team efforts and high‑quality, safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, supervisors, surgeons, and anesthesiologists; promotes all PRIDE values.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology or related field preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program required.
• Certification through NCCT or NBSTSA required.
• 1–2 years of experience as a Scrub Tech in a hospital setting preferred.
• BLS required.
