Position Summary

The Medical Scribe functions as an integral member of the health information management team by transcribing all medical records and patient information, within the standards set by the department and the facility.

Qualifications
  • High School Graduate/GED
  • 1–3 years of experience preferred
  • Ability to work closely with facility and medical staff, with good communication and excellent organizational skills, and a minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.
  • May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
  • Thorough knowledge of transcription devices, techniques, and procedure.
  • Complete knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Advanced knowledge of computers and various software packages.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Organize and prioritize transcription requests to meet established deadlines and complete workloads timely.
  • Maintain a transcription log consisting of patient name, medical record number, attending licensed practitioner, person dictating, type of report, date of dictation, and date of transcription.
  • Reproduce all transcribed reports as requested and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Distribute all in‑house patient reports to appropriate units.
  • Distribute all reports on discharged patients to the Health Information Technician for filing.
  • Assemble and review all discharge medical records.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Have adequate vision to read handwritten and typewritten material.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. to move/transfer file boxes and data processing paper.
