Overview

The Account Director leads and operationalizes teams that profitably deliver work within a portfolio of accounts. He/She understands the agency revenue and profitability model, ensures work is completed within budget, owns revenue and forecast for the brand, negotiates budget needs, and keeps management informed of account status, problems, plans, and meetings, including senior management as needed. He/She maintains a thorough understanding of industry business trends, ensures tactical and strategic integrity, trains the account team, and develops ongoing business on accounts while identifying new organic growth opportunities.

He/She engages with senior‑level clients to build relationships, proactively responds to emerging needs, and leads longer‑term planning with a foundational knowledge of the category to which brands belong, interpreting market research data into brand ideas.

Client Partnership & Business Development

The Account Director holds responsibility for client relationships at all levels. He/She engages with senior‑level clients, continues ongoing relationship development, and monitors and evaluates the competitive landscape to deliver senior‑level strategic insights. He/She mines new organic business opportunities with existing clients, builds relationships across the client’s organization and key industry partners, establishes a strategic partnership that ensures our agency POV is shared and delivered effectively, and solidifies client relationships beyond day‑to‑day project owners.

He/She partners with clients to identify and strategize new project details, develops project briefs, conducts regular client status meetings, informs clients of project development and timing, and liaises with client stakeholders to drive project execution. He/She oversees client MLR submissions, ensuring agency work remains compliant with client guidelines.

Internal Account Management

As a team leader, the Account Director provides clear and fair direction and feedback. He/She ensures the right team members and departments are involved in the appropriate projects at the right time, actively participates in strategic development, establishes communication objectives and strategies, oversees brand strategy implementation across all work streams, owns and communicates to the extended internal team, develops marketing tactical plans and budgets, supervises production of tactics, and ensures timely, accurate client documentation and correspondence.
