JOB DESCRIPTION

Supports department operations by coordinating staffing, projects, and supporting clinical staff to provide safe patient care. Oversees functions of centralized and unit-based educational programs. Conducts performance appraisals, promotes professional development, and ensures regulatory compliance. Fosters collaboration and maintains a positive work environment aligned with high standards of care.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Oversee and assist with the coordination and delivery of educational programs, competency management, onboarding, orientation, inquiry, collaborative partnerships, role development and compliance. Encourage and promote high standards of patient care. Ensure appropriate staffing is met to meet departmental needs.
  • Monitor team member schedules, coordinate overtime, and ensure staffing aligns with budget. Maintain productivity targets and accurate payroll.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are maintained. Assist with budget preparation and monthly variance analysis.
  • Coordinate and support introductory and annual performance appraisals. Participate in hiring and termination. Provide clinical and behavioral guidance. Identify educational opportunities and promote professional growth.
  • Use progressive disciplinary processes, address staff issues promptly, document actions, monitor time and attendance, and facilitate respectful conflict resolution.
  • Act as a leader in the absence of the manager, providing on‑shift coordination and guidance. Maintain open communication with staff, physicians, and leadership. Assess and resolve complex issues independently or collaboratively. Foster teamwork across departments and disciplines to ensure quality patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, Board of Health, and hospital standards. Fulfill all regulatory, licensure, annual competency, and mandatory training requirements. Promote high‑quality patient care by developing and interpreting the hospital’s and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state nursing regulations and other governing bodies.
  • Actively participate in patient safety initiatives and performance improvement efforts. Develop, implement, and monitor action plans in response to survey findings or unit‑specific issues. Maintain and regularly update unit policies and procedures to reflect current best practices and regulatory expectations.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to the healthcare team. Act as a mentor and preceptor. Participate in the orientation of new educators. Promote professional development, specialty certification, and continuing education. Recognize limitations and seek appropriate resources. Seek new information to broaden knowledge base. Participate in Shared Governance activities. Serve on interdepartmental committees and task forces. Act as a unit liaison when requested.

  • Positive communication skills; experience with quality initiatives, action plans, and auditing; time management and multitasking skills; experience with Joint Commission preparation.
  • Experience with team evaluations and disciplinary action processes; proven ability to coach teams and provide opportunities to facilitate teamwork; MS office experience.
  • Problem solving, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Strong leadership skills; able to work with multiple departments; superior interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend system functions at other sites as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN
  • Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey
  • BLS Certification
  • 2–3 years of experience in nursing or a related area
  • Basic Dysrhythmia
  • HRO training
  • Preferred:

  • MSN or higher degree
  • Certification in area of specialty
  • ACLS certification
