Job Description

This is an open position with Jersey Central Power and Light, a subsidiary of First Energy Corp. Journey Line Worker: $61.32 / Trouble man: $63.96. Jersey Central Power & Light is hiring eight (10) experienced Journey Line workers for multiple locations in New Jersey. Available locations:
Boonton, Dover, Flemington, Newton, Summit, Washington, MCG mobile, and TC&M - West Wharton.

Responsibilities
  • Engage in construction, maintenance, and repair of transmission and distribution lines under general supervision.
  • Commit to all aspects of safety.
  • Install and remove poles, install and change insulator assemblies, string, splice, and tie in conductors.
  • Work on energized lines when required and operate high‑pressure insulator washers.
  • Perform operations such as transferring circuit loads by making cuts and taps.
  • Make cutovers from old poles and equipment to new or temporary installations.
  • Locate faults on open or grounded street light circuits.
  • Maintain sound internal and external customer service.
  • Inspect poles, lines, and coworkers’ equipment.
  • Assist in directing and training less experienced employees.
Qualifications
  • Journey Line worker with at least 2 years of hands‑on experience with an electric utility or a utility lines construction contractor.
  • Valid CDL operator's license and ability to safely operate motor vehicles.
  • Skills in pole climbing and installing and removing poles, towers, structures, and transformers.
  • Thorough knowledge of transmission and distribution system principles and operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of applied electricity including AC and DC circuits.
  • Questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and build relationships.
  • Understanding of clearing and grounding lines procedures and equipment for protection of public, personnel, and property.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and dielectric characteristics of cable materials and cable joints.
  • Understanding of safety, first aid, and rescue practices.
  • Basic knowledge of National Electric Code and NESC.
  • Ability to interpret complex prints and specifications.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Prepare legible and accurate reports using paper documents and mobile computer.
  • Provide qualification certificate demonstrating status as a qualified journey line worker.
