Summit Public Schools is seeking a skilled and reliable HVAC Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across all school buildings to ensure a comfortable and safe learning environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC systems, including boilers, air handlers, chillers, ventilation units, and thermostats.
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to optimize energy efficiency and climate control.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical components, and plumbing as it relates to heating and cooling.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge in multimeters, ammeters, megohmmeters, 3‑phase electrical services, safety precautions/OSHA 30 (preferred), 277/480 VAC systems, low voltage wiring, and BAS/BACnet operation (preferred).
  • Demonstrate strength and dexterity to be able to perform all required tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs and snow removal.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in HVAC maintenance, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, technical school or HVAC certification preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal) preferred.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license.
  • Black Seal Boiler License or must attain within 10 months of hire.
