Position Overview
- FLSA Status: This position is non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act in relation to wage and hour regulations.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred.
- Experience: 3 years of related experience in accounting or finance, preferably in cost accounting or at an electric utility.
- Knowledge: Working knowledge of purchasing, accounting, and inventory control including planning material requirements, preparation of quotation requests, evaluation of quotations, and researching source/problems of supply and product lines preferred. Knowledge of rural electrification and cooperative programs is helpful. Must have a thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR or be able to be certified within 90 days of employment.

Skills:
Must be able to work independently and with other department personnel on various projects and work assignments. Must have ability to express oneself orally and in writing. Must have the ability to collect data, compose reports, type with accuracy sufficient to complete assigned computer-related duties. Must have strong analytical skills, knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office products (especially Excel).
Must possess or obtain expert level knowledge of RUS plant accounting processes and procedures. - Department: Finance & Administration

- Reports To: VP of Finance & Accounting
- Position Function: The Plant Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records related to the cooperative's plant assets, including tracking costs, managing assets, and ensuring compliance with utility-specific accounting standards like those from the Rural Utility Service (RUS). This position is also responsible for various other accounting duties.
- Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in an office setting in a controlled environment. The noise level is low and the work area is not crowded.
- Physical Requirements: Sedentary work requiring minimal physical exertion. Job requires frequent sitting, standing and walking and occasionally bending, stooping, squatting, and lifting to perform various responsibilities of the position. Requires repetitive motion with hands and fingers such as dialing and keyboarding. Must be able to present information to others and work under stress.
- Complete paperwork and computer entries documenting receipt and distribution of material to properly account for material transactions.
- Analyze, compile, record, and manage data related to plant cost, materials, labor, and inventory to ensure accurate costs.
- Perform periodic and annual material inventory counts to assist with inventory control.
- Attend and participate in safety meetings and training, maintaining safe work practices.
- Attend or participate in Annual Meeting of Members as assigned.
- Communicate using equipment provided by the Cooperative in accordance with FCC regulations, company regulations and policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including the replacement of other personnel in their positions for short periods of time as required.
- Issue work order numbers for projects not created in Staking Program.
- Close projects to plant accounts monthly and monitor the amount in Work in Progress. Follow up on outstanding work orders with engineering and operations departments for accuracy and efficiency.
- Compare staking sheets to material lists of completed construction/retirement projects to ensure materials used are properly recorded.
- True up material for completed projects.
- Analyze project costs and make recommendations for adjustments. Prepare work order summaries for transmittal to the accounting department.
- Check invoice quantities and prices for reconciliation to purchase orders for plant materials and operating supplies.
- Enter and analyze data for completed construction and retirement work orders.
- Review for accuracy and enter purchase orders, receiving tickets, and invoices into the accounts payable system.
