An SBDC Business Consultant provides counseling and delivers programs to individuals, businesses, communities, organizations and other public agencies in an assigned geographic territory. The role requires a broad base of business knowledge, excellent research and analytical skills, creative problem‑solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously. Professionals must integrate business theory and practice, participate in ongoing professional development, and complete SBDC training.
Multi‑county travel may be necessary to serve the assigned counties.
- Provide counseling and deliver programs to private‑sector businesses.
- Develop specific and relevant areas of expertise within business development.
- Create new training programs, consulting tools and responsive research projects.
- Assist communities in becoming leaders and instructors in the local business community.
- Collaborate with businesses, bankers, government officials and resource providers.
- Represent the SBDC at educational workshops, Chamber of Commerce events and similar functions.
- Manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously.
- Travel as required to serve assigned counties.
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, business research, marketing and accounting.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Comfortable and confident public speaking and interpersonal communication.
Standard schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with an hour for lunch. Weekdays Monday through Friday. Specific hours and days may vary and may include evening or weekend hours for special events. Flexibility is required to meet department needs.
