Job Description General Statement of Job

An aerospace engineering teacher instructs students in the principles of flight, aircraft design, propulsion, utilization of CAD software, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands‑on lab training. They are responsible for curriculum development, lecturing, mentoring students, and staying current with industry advancements in aerospace technology. Under limited supervision, plans and presents innovative, developmentally appropriate opportunities for students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to the development of students' academic abilities.

Reports to the assigned Principal.

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience: Professional experience in the aerospace industry, such as with aircraft, spacecraft, or missile design is highly valued. Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Skills: Strong proficiency in relevant software, analytical skills, and pedagogical techniques.
Certifications
  • Requires a valid South Carolina teaching certificate for secondary education or eligibility for South Carolina teaching certificate in the appropriate certified area.
  • Industry‑specific certifications would be considered a plus.
  • An FAA Part 107 sUAS Pilot Certification (or willingness to become certified).
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, presentations, and hands‑on activities on topics such as the engineering design process, aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, materials science, CAD 3D design software, rocket propulsion, ballistics, aviation weather, airspace classifications, airport operations, navigation, FAA sUAS drone pilot regulations, aviation physics, risk management, OSHA & safety regulations, and aerospace communication.
  • Utilize and teach students to operate modern equipment like wind tunnels, 3D printers, laser/cutter/engraver machinery, UAS drones, and flight simulators.
  • Maintain office hours to facilitate communication with parents and to mentor students on academic progress and career opportunities within the aerospace industry.
  • Develop, administer, and grade assignments, tests, prototypes, research projects, and presentations.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • May teach multiple disciplines as assigned.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Plan and prepare lesson plans and related activities for individual students or assigned classes.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals; establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of students involved.
  • Grade work completed by students; maintain accurate records of test scores / grades.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Report suspected learning and other disabilities to District specialist(s) as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up‑to‑date records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Monitor the activities/behavior of the student body as scheduled to ensure student safety and well‑being.
  • Assist individual students in need of special attention.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents; participate in parent‑teacher conferences; maintain a parent communication log.
