Description
Works to develop and implement curriculum and instruction for grades K-5 that is aligned with the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready ELA Standards, the South Carolina College and Career Ready Social Studies Standards, and with the South Carolina Profile of the Graduate. Develops and implements a professional development program that improves student achievement by promoting classroom instruction that encompasses appropriate content, pedagogy, technology, and assessment;
collaborates with members of the instructional staff to improve teaching and learning in Sumter School District.
Job Duties Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum, instruction and formative assessment program.Assist teachers and school leaders in organizing and implementing the curriculum for all students.Coordinate and implement professional learning of school-level curriculum, materials and textbooks that support educators and builds capacity for improving teaching and learning.Coordinate and implement professional learning of pedagogy and best practices for teachers to improve teaching and learning in ELA and social studies classes.Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings and professional learning communities to promote collaboration among teachers.Coordinate and implement professional development to improve the use of formative assessment and ongoing monitoring with effective feedback to improve learning.Coordinate the development and implementation of Read to Succeed Act requirements including development and updates to the district reading plan.Coordinate the development and implementation of summer reading camps and coordinate other summer ELA student learning opportunities.Coordinate and implement the instructional programming and professional development for instructional coaches, reading coaches and reading interventionists.Support effective use of technology for teaching and learning.Provide schools and teachers with guidance for using data to inform instruction.Stay well informed about emerging trends, research, and best practices and advocate for necessary resources and support.Stay well informed of instructionally-related state statutes. Monitor local school compliance and assist schools with compliance as needed.Coordinate the development or selection of formative and/or interim assessments.Coordinate the selection of instructional software and hardware.Conduct school visits and provide useful feedback to school leadership and teachers.Meet with school-level curriculum support educators and teachers to interpret and help implement the district curriculum.Assist teachers in organizing curriculum and utilizing effective teaching strategies at the request of the principal.Participate in the district's teacher induction program as a member of the planning team and as advisor and special consultant to beginning teachers as needed.Coordinate the selection of the district's elementary instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and textbooks.Collaborate with other district administrators to allocate and manage resources, including textbooks, technology, materials, and supplies.Assist district leadership in the evaluation of the instructional program, including interpreting assessment results and other data analysis to inform plans for instructional improvement and to focus professional development.Identify ways in which the curriculum may be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of students.Support district-wide activities such as curriculum writing, assessment development, and certain aspects of strategic planning.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledgeable of the District's overall curriculum goals, the South Carolina Curriculum Standards for ELA, the South Carolina Curriculum Standards for Social Studies, and the South Carolina Profile of a Graduate.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups.
