Position Summary

Adjunct faculty are hired each semester on an as‑needed basis. The adjunct faculty member is responsible for creating a learning environment that supports student success and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of College‑approved syllabi.

Location: South Bend/Elkhart County

Work Type: Part‑Time

Classification: Adjunct Faculty

Salary: $48.67 per contact hour

Reports To: Department/Program Chair

Major Responsibilities
  • Deliver assigned courses in accordance with College policies, course objectives, and approved curricula.
  • Utilize instructional technology to enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning.
  • Develop and maintain ADA‑compliant syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, including grades and attendance, in accordance with College requirements.
  • Engage students in meaningful and productive ways that support learning and contribute to a positive student experience.
  • Demonstrate the use of active learning strategies that promote student engagement and success.
  • Interact with students, faculty, and staff in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Comply with College policies, campus guidelines, and expectations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and implement emergency and safety procedures in all learning environments, including classrooms and labs.

Minimum Qualifications (Discipline Standard – History)

A qualified faculty member in history meets one of the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in history; or
  • Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in history.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience with learning management systems (for example, Ivy Learn/Canvas).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach diverse student populations.
