• Bachelor's degree in physical education or related area of discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Valid SC Teaching License (any applicable area)

Must have current government issued identification

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

Under general supervision, instructs students in physical education skills including student development, physical fitness, cooperation, and age-appropriate 21st century skills in such a way that the individual student's needs, interests, and abilities are met. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

• Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based society.
• Teaches concepts and skills in physical education and/or health that facilitate learning and contribute to students' academic and social/emotional development; administers the classroom curriculum for physical education and /or health as prescribed by the state standards.
• Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of extra fitness and wellness programs as assigned.
• Instructs students in the proper use, care and operation of sports equipment to prevent loss, abuse, or injury.
• Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; monitors student progression in classwork and assists students with all phases of the physical education class; observes student work to make criticisms and corrections; evaluates contributions in teams.
• Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.
• Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues.
• Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
• Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
• Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment and tools.
• Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
• Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students' progress; suggests interventions as appropriate.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Responsible for supervision of students in classrooms and other instructional settings. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions and safety issues.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
