Job Summary
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote and in-office work. As a design engineering role, it presents diverse and challenging opportunities in Electrical Engineering, with excellent prospects for career advancement.
Responsibilities- Support electrical design engineering on multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Conduct engineering calculations, analyses, and prepare engineering reports.
- Prepare design inputs for drawing production, including electrical site plans, power and lighting plans, one-line diagrams, assembly drawings, conduit and wire run schedules, and wiring/elementary diagrams.
- Apply electrical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components.
- Produce procurement and construction specifications.
- Attend project meetings and conduct field walk-downs.
- Mentor less experienced engineers, providing guidance and development support.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen. Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. is not permitted.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from an ABET-accredited program.
- 5 years of progressive, responsible experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a nuclear environment.
- Experience with producing engineering designs for low to medium voltage electrical distribution systems and instrumentation wiring. Experience with multiple system types is a plus.
- Familiarity with NEC, UL508, electrical codes, and the IES Lighting Handbook.
- Proficiency in, or ability to learn, load flow and/or arc flash analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM Power Tools).
- Proficiency in, or ability to learn, lighting analysis software (e.g., Visual, AGI
32).
- Professional Engineer License (PE).
- Department of Energy (DOE) experience preferred; commercial or Navy experience also valued.
- Field engineering and construction experience.
In this role, you are expected to lead others in utilizing modern tools for engineering problem-solving. This includes setting expectations for data-driven approaches, automation, and AI to enhance workflows, minimize rework, and deliver cost-effective designs. Leaders will guide automation and process-improvement initiatives, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation. They will also advise on the appropriate use of AI and agentic AI tools, ensuring results are thoroughly checked.
Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) for task automation, including reviewing automated outputs, is valued. Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that facilitates oversight of automation and AI-enabled workflows is also highly valued.

$84,762 - $129,498 annually.

About This Business UnitSargent & Lundy's Government Services Division delivers advanced engineering design and consulting for U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. We support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate and National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories, contributing to projects that clean up environmental damage from the legacy nuclear weapons complex and preserve the nation's nuclear deterrent. Our work involves designing facilities, systems, and equipment for treating, storing, and disposing of nuclear waste, as well as safely handling and processing nuclear materials.
