Job Description
- Perform basic to moderate‑complexity inspections of transportation infrastructure to evaluate that appropriate materials and construction processes are used and that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and any special provisions.
- Use industry‑standard gauges and perform industry‑standard calculations during inspections.
- Review inspection‑related documentation, including drawings, specifications, and plans, to prepare for the inspection.
- Understand relevant parts of the design that will be inspected.
- Document and communicate inspection results to the project supervisor.
- Perform other duties as required.
- After reviewing drawings, plan basic‑complexity inspection projects, including developing inspection assignments for other inspectors assigned to the same project.
- Conduct basic‑complexity field measurements to establish quantities for pay‑item documentation and other contract‑related documentation.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications from a State Highway Agency or a national entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, or concrete, if required by the client or jurisdiction.
- Valid driver’s license.
- At least 2 years of related experience; equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required (frequency contingent on duties).
- Proficiency with an appropriate and valid driver’s license is required.
Approximately 20% of the time.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Basic knowledge of arithmetic.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone, or related applications and programs.
- Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
