Job Responsibilities
Performs duties as the District Special Projects Engineer on roadway and bridge construction projects and Alternative Delivery projects. Serves as the agency's lead project administrator during construction, assigns and supervises personnel to projects to ensure contractor compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions. Evaluates contract documents to identify conflicts and recommends resolutions. Serves on Alternative Delivery committees and teams during the project development process, ensuring proper coordination on roadway and bridge construction projects.
Coordinates with utility company representatives and property owners to resolve conflicts and answer questions within property limits, acting as a liaison between contractors and municipal officials. Conducts preconstruction or partnering sessions, coordinates with FHWA officials, and serves as a resource during planning phases. Communicates with the Director of Construction office and Office of Alternative Delivery regarding construction or reporting issues.
Supervises and manages office staff and consultant staff, evaluates staffing needs, and provides training and mentoring to employees. Maintains accurate personnel records, prepares and reviews monthly mileage reports, and maintains equipment. Ensures compliance with departmental rules, regulations, and initiatives. Prepares consultant work orders, processes monthly consultant invoices, and ensures project files, laboratory samples, erosion control, traffic control, budgets, and timely project closeouts are completed.
Confers with contractors on construction scheduling, checks progress against schedules, and addresses scheduling or progression issues. Performs related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalent. The physical demands involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods, occasional travel, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to moving traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
May require work outside normal business hours or responding to emergency situations.
