CEMS Engineering, Inc. seeks a Mechanical Designer in Summerville, SC. The position is on-site, 20 minutes from downtown Charleston.
About UsCEMS is a multi-discipline architecture and engineering firm serving federal, municipal, and private clients across the Carolinas and East Coast.
PositionResponsible for designing and laying out mechanical systems and controls for building projects. Serve as designer on a variety of complex systems, collaborate with engineers, architects, project team members. Must produce mechanical drawings, diagrams, schematics, technical data packages. Work independently and take initiatives.
ResponsibilitiesDesign, produce, and document mechanical components and systems for facility projects. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to refine designs and solve integration challenges. Ensure constructability and compliance with regulations.
Minimum Qualifications- Drafting, Design, and/or CAD experience in engineering design.
- Prior experience working as a mechanical MEP designer on building or facilities projects.
- Strong oral and communication skills.
- Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Experience with technical writing of various documents such as reports, specifications, manuals.
- Ability to pass a background check and access DOD facilities.
- Prior experience working with government entities, i.e. DOD, State, Local Municipalities.
- Possess practical understanding of how designs translate into real-world applications.
- Ability to translate real-world applications into efficient assemblies and drawings for installation, testing, and maintenance.
- Associate's Degree in Engineering or related field preferred or combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Certified BIM/CAD professional preferred.
- DoD Experience is considered a plus.
- Experience in Revit MEP is also a plus.
- Minimum 5+ years drafting, design, and/or CAD experience in engineering design.

EnvironmentMechanical Designer will work primarily in an office environment. Periodic travel to project sites will be required. Work on project sites will involve exposure to extreme temperatures, climbing ladders, confined spaces, unfavorable elements found in new construction sites. Use of safety equipment such as hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, and respiratory protection will be required.
PhysicalPrimary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; also to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision and HearingSeeing and hearing in the normal visual and audial range with or without correction.
