This position welcomes candidates with 10 years experience. The Environmental Health & Safety engineer is responsible for developing and implementing programs and policies that ensure the overall safety and health of employees and enable compliant business operations. The engineer applies in‑depth knowledge of EH&S laws, regulations, and management systems, and works independently with minimal guidance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Key player in all Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives on‑site.
- Act as deputy EHS Leader when the EHS Leader is absent.
- Participate actively in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert within the EHS team.
- Provide EHS expertise in new equipment project teams, from design to operational stage.
- Lead sustainability projects across the site and maintain ISO 14001 certification by ensuring audit readiness.
- Represent the site to authorities and insurance companies on technical EHS topics.
- Maintain technical expertise in machine guarding, lock out tag out, and other relevant safety programs.
- Stay current on site sustainability targets and projects to ensure their achievement and completion.
- Contribute core efforts to ISO 14001 certification.
- Participate in other EHS programs as requested.
- A strong interest in fostering positivity, growing the safety and sustainability culture, and influencing associates, peers, and superiors positively.
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, or equivalent.
- Or a Bachelor of Science or Associate of Science degree in a technical field or Environmental Health and Safety.
- Minimum 5 years relevant manufacturing experience.
- Experience in leading EHS projects and teams.
- Professional (ASP/CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certifications preferred.
- Experience managing environmental compliance, permitting, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience evaluating OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and Title V reporting.
- Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in ISO 14001 compliance preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills across all levels and functions.
- Effective counseling, coaching, and influencing abilities.
- Understanding of federal and state safety and environmental laws.
- Ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards and environmental issues.
- Capability to work in a diverse team environment and lead projects or technical teams.
- Adaptability, resilience, and proactive problem‑solving.
- Time‑management and multitasking skills.
- Critical thinking and conflict resolution.
- High energy and passion for excellence.
- Self‑directed and comfortable in a matrixed organization.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
