As a Mechanical/Process Engineer, you will be a hands‑on technical leader responsible for lineside support and process improvement within a high‑speed medical technology manufacturing environment. You will spend approximately 70‑80% of your time on the production floor, using data‑driven insights to optimize capacity, reduce waste, and improve cost efficiency. This role requires a blend of mechanical design expertise and practical troubleshooting skills to ensure the success of complex production lines.
Key Responsibilities- Support production lines by identifying process bottlenecks and implementing data‑driven improvements.
- Focus on capacity expansion through process optimization, quality enhancement, and cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Design, debug, and implement machine improvements and capital equipment modifications.
- Assist project engineers with design feedback, installation, and coordination of capital projects.
- Manage multiple projects of varying scales to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Oversee all technical documentation, including validations, operating procedures, PM schedules, and Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs).
- Coordinate activities between equipment vendors, R&D teams, and plant departments.
- Prepare capital appropriation requests and control expenditures for small‑scale improvements.
- Guide, mentor, and develop technical staff to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills
- Proficient in mechanical design, specifically for tooling and fixtures.
- Expertise in Solid Works and AutoCAD is required (other CAD experience considered).
- Advanced capability in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for cam‑driven equipment integrating pneumatics, servos, and PLC‑driven sensors.
- Ability to create, modify, and redesign technical drawings.
- Understanding of Preventive Maintenance (PM) principles and data‑driven troubleshooting.
- Experience in managing vendor relationships and securing contractor quotations.
- Ability to determine the feasibility of in‑house fabrication versus external contracting.
- Knowledge of established safety standards (EHS) and manufacturing industry practices.
- Expertise in technical writing for Bill of Materials (BOM) and validation protocols.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical content to non‑technical audiences.
- Collaborative mindset for working with cross‑functional teams and supervising support personnel.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred; significant equivalent experience will be considered. - Experience
: 2 to 5 years of experience is preferred, though all levels will be considered with compensation adjusted accordingly.
