Job Description

What you will be doing:
  • Report to the Technical Leader.
  • Responsible for lineside support projects and process improvement activities to achieve departmental and plant goals, specifically supporting a production line.
  • Use data-driven decisions to drive improvements and demonstrate effectiveness.
  • Focus on capacity expansion through existing process optimization, quality/waste improvement, and cost improvement activities.
  • Balance multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity, interacting with several levels of cross‑functional teams.
  • Design and implement machine improvements.
  • Assist Project Engineers with design feedback and installation assistance for capital projects.
  • Guide staff in troubleshooting and upkeep of cam‑driven equipment that integrates pneumatic, servo, and PLC‑driven equipment/sensors.
  • Support the plant manufacturing effort with proven ability to identify problems and pursue plans toward their resolution in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Coordinate activities between equipment vendors, Division R & D, and plant functional departments.
  • Manage multiple projects of small to large scope requiring extensive coordination to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives.
  • Prepare and submit capital appropriation requests and control expenditures for small‑scale improvements.
  • Collaborate with EHS staff to update and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Facilitate and coordinate strategic PM activities that align with data‑driven troubleshooting.
  • Recommend vendors for commercial items and materials needed for projects, cost savings, and reliability.
  • Determine which elements of a job are suitable for in‑house fabrication or revision and which items should be contracted.
  • Secure quotations and select contractors, directing their efforts to satisfactory completion of the necessary work.
  • Recommend and implement capital equipment or process modifications, including physical installation, debugging, and training of production personnel.
  • Responsible for all associated documentation updates and implementation, including validations, Operations Procedures, Preventive Maintenance schedules, Engineering Change Notifications, and Bill of Materials.
  • Develop a firm understanding of all equipment to include setup, adjustment, and assessment of possible improvements.
  • Attain budgeted cost reductions and efficiency gains.
  • Accountable for spending within approved limits on programs within the department.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop technical staff to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Modify, redesign, and create technical drawings of tooling and fixtures.
  • Spend more than 70% of your time on the floor supporting troubleshooting, maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Direct the efforts of support personnel in the modification, adjustment, removal, and installation of equipment.
  • Provide functional supervision of other Engineers toward attainment of assignments.
Experience you will need:
  • Proficient in mechanical design and troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with and able to teach maintenance principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of common Engineering industry practices, equipment repair, and cultivating vendor relationships.
  • Experience and expertise in Solid Works, AutoCAD, etc. Other CAD experience is acceptable but Solid Works, AutoCAD preferred.
  • Ability to present, convey content, and garner understanding publicly to a non‑technical audience (e.g., Project report outs, Technical Trainings, Safety Stand downs, etc.).
  • Preferred Bachelor's or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering. Will consider length of experience in lieu of Degree.
