Payroll Coordinator – Full-Time Position

Coastal Carolina University (CCU) is currently accepting applications for the position of Payroll Coordinator in the Office of Payroll. The role is full-time and requires a 12-month employment term. Work hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm and Friday 8:00am-12:30pm, totaling 37.5 hours per week.

Job Responsibilities
  • Process semi-monthly payroll for exempt employees—including prorated calculations, contract payouts, leave without pay, and annual leave payouts—and oversee biweekly payroll for non-exempt and student employees, ensuring accurate overtime, differentials, and final pay.
  • Manage time entry and approval processes; monitor missed time reporting and audit overtime calculations for compliance with FLSA, state regulations, and university policy.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university payroll regulations, including FLSA, IRS limits, ACA, CCPA, PEBA, and garnishment requirements. Verify retirement contributions, supplemental deductions, and garnishments are withheld correctly and within limits.
  • Enter, track, and maintain voluntary and benefit payroll deductions; calculate and manage benefit deduction amounts for biweekly payroll.
  • Manage onboarding tax forms and related paperwork through the onboarding and paperless systems; create and maintain the annual payroll processing calendar, including deadlines and system updates.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries from faculty, staff, students, and external parties.
Required Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and professional experience in an accounting, auditing, finance, or commercial lending related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education payroll; experience serving as a payroll lead or senior payroll role; experience with payroll system implementations or upgrades.

Additional Skills

High attention to detail and accuracy; strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving ability; strong customer service and communication skills; familiarity with PEBA and ACA reporting and audit support; ability to handle confidential information with discretion; knowledge of payroll regulations, policies, and procedures; high proficiency in Excel; ability to build working relationships.
