Job Summary

This is the fifth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, interpret internal or external business issues, and recommend solutions. The role requires leading and advising others in specialized financial areas, coordinating daily work activities, and reviewing the work of teammates. Incumbents may also regularly lead projects and work independently with minimal guidance, providing specialized depth and breadth of expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Lead business and peer teams to drive results.
  • Direct the workplan and ensure effective project completion within the department.
  • Lead change initiatives among peers and step into a supervisory role when the manager is unavailable.
  • Leverage industry knowledge to provide business context for decisions.
  • Identify initiatives to improve business outcomes and communicate these across segments, enterprise drivers, and regulatory influences.
  • Working independently to provide strong context for decision‑making.
  • Serve as a consultant or subject‑matter expert for technical, functional, and strategic financial business management issues.
  • Achieve financial performance targets by providing analytical insight to executives and senior leaders, including budgeting, reporting, and projection activities.
  • Ensure peers receive appropriate training and are capable of performing tasks.
  • Lead special projects, initiatives, and financial studies.
  • Establish and maintain proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls.
  • Review and approve accounting journal entries, including accruals and corrections.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, with 8+ years desired, showing increasingly diverse or complex experience.
  • Prior equivalent work‑related experience is not accepted unless grandfathered with CFO staff approval.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Master's degree in Accounting or an MBA.
Additional

Preferred Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and finance principles, practices, and procedures for complex assignments.
  • Experience with financial applications such as People Soft FMIS, Power Plant, and query tools like Business Objects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced credentials (e.g., CPA, CIA, CFA, CMA, or MBA) strongly encouraged for the Lead Analyst level or higher.
Working Conditions

Hybrid Mobility Classification – work performed from both remote and onsite locations after onboarding. Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility. Typical schedules include M‑TH 4‑10a.m. with two days in the office, or M‑F 5‑8a.m. with three days in the office.
