Lieutenant Wateree River Correctional Inst, Rembert; SUMTER Level 2

Responsibilities

• Supervises all security staff in a correctional facility.
• Instructs and trains subordinate staff and makes inspections to ensure they properly perform assigned duties.
• Make sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, building contents, grounds and vehicles.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
• Supervises and verifies the accuracy of scheduled formal counts; makes informal counts when required.
• Prepares and submits written operational and administrative reports.
• Studies and remains thoroughly familiar with current policies and procedures.
• Other duties as required.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

• A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
