Title: School Custodian

Job Goal: To provide a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient educational facility.

Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in maintenance, training, and experience that provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal in accordance with the provisions of Sumter School District policy.

Salary: $13.50/hr – $21.59/hr – $23,591.25 – $37,728.52

Responsibilities:

• Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
• Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
• Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their conditions requires it.
• Scrubs and disinfects toilets, floors, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains.
• Washes all windows on both the inside and outside as necessary.
• Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.
• Keeps all floors in clean and attractive condition and in good state of preservation.
• Makes routine building repairs as requested.
• Promptly reports major repairs needed to the principal/designee.
• Reports immediately to the principal/designee any damages to school property.
• Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non‑school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the principal.
• Assumes the responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day, and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, activate security alarm, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons are turned off.
• Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
• Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.
• Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
