PurposeProvide leadership and guidance to shift teams that promote personal development, accountability, shift consistency, and managerial cooperation so that the Key Performance Measures (KPM) is met through continuous improvement. This position will include overall responsibilities for technical and non-technical training for all employees. This position will be a career development opportunity and will focus on developing for future opportunities.
Key Accountabilities- Be a Safety advocate and champion. Provide managerial support to teams; a safety coach and mentor. Guide Safety teams towards an accident‑free work environment.
- Committed to managing by Principles versus by Rules in keeping with the Sumter philosophy.
- Responsible for training, career tracking, and discipline through team meetings, personal 1‑to‑1s, peer evaluations, and Human Resources assistance.
- Manage available resources to achieve KPM (Key Performance Measures) through continuous improvement.
- Provide daily leadership to ensure Sumter Converting meets customer’s needs and Commercial Printing and Imaging Papers goals.
- Proactive management that encourages:
- Employee Engagement
- Decision making at the lowest level
- Innovative and positive thinking
- Assume overall Sumter plant responsibility in the plant manager’s or manufacturing manager’s absence. Assume and coordinate weekend call.
- Responsible for team Dayforce management (biweekly payroll/days off).
- Having stand‑alone skills necessary to make decisions without the need for upper management approval.
- Managing Safety efforts throughout the organization by championing the Quality and Reliability processes.
- Budgeting and ensuring budget compliance by managing budget in areas of responsibility.
- Manage machine and plant maintenance/reliability issues for the facility.
- Provide Human Resources support for management and employees.
- Manage engineering support for major projects and expansions.
- Increase knowledge and expertise through additional education and training in areas of responsibility.
- Commitment and support of Sumter Team Leader philosophy.
- Weekend and after‑hours plant involvement.
- 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or engineering fields preferred.
- Must have strong leadership skills and a proven track record of improving employee engagement.
- Previous supervisory experience a plus.
- Paper converting experience a plus.
