Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the warden, the incumbent will assist in the daily planning and coordination of the institutional operations including security, administration and support for the institution. This includes Directors at SCDC Headquarters. Supervises security, custody, and control of inmates, counseling them as necessary. Serves as duty warden and in the capacity of the warden during his/her absence. Supervises the implementation and executing of laws, policies, rules and regulations, as well as operating procedures including OSHA regulations.

Writes policies and procedures for a Level II institution. Prepares (writes) various reports, special studies and staff papers, including recommendations relating to proposed changes in policies, operating procedures, rules, regulations and laws. Supervises maintaining the sanitation of the institution, buildings, property etc. Other duties as required. Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC

Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and ten (10) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which must include five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for the overall experience on a year for year basis (associate = 2 years, bachelor's and above = 4 years).
• No substitutions for supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
