Summary of Position:
The Wastewater Operator Level “B” is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the facility’s wastewater treatment systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This role involves performing intermediate-level technical duties, including monitoring, adjusting, and documenting treatment processes, as well as performing preventative maintenance and minor repairs on related equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate, monitor, and adjust wastewater treatment systems, pumps, valves, tanks, clarifiers, and other process equipment.
- Conduct routine process control tests, sample collection, and lab analysis to determine treatment efficiency and compliance with permits.
- Maintain accurate logs of flows, chemical usage, maintenance activities, and laboratory data.
- Interpret data and make process control decisions based on operational performance and compliance requirements.
- Assist in troubleshooting plant operations and mechanical systems.
- Monitor SCADA systems and adjust treatment operations as necessary.
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations in a timely and safe manner.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable NPDES or local discharge permit requirements.
- Guide entry-level operators as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Level “B” Wastewater Operator Certification issued by South Carolina DHEC.
- 2+ years of hands-on wastewater operations experience.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Proficient in basic computer applications and SCADA system operation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an industrial wastewater treatment facility.
- Knowledge of confined space entry, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and chemical handling.
- Forklift or heavy equipment certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work in varying weather conditions and in wet, noisy, or odorous environments.
- Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and walk or stand for extended periods.
- Use of PPE, including respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, is required.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time
- On-call rotation as assigned
