At West Fraser, our Crane Operator position is considered one of the key positions in the mill as it is your responsibility to unload trucks and feed the mill. The position is the very start of our process and without it, the mill is unable to run!
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Carefully unload log trucks and stack logs in the log yard crib.
- Communicate with log truck drivers and others to provide safe equipment operation.
- Gather logs from the yard and feed into the de-barker line.
- Complete shift paperwork and recordkeeping
- Attend team meetings and regular training sessions
- Comply with all Company safety standards and protocols
- Other duties as assigned
- Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs, multiple times throughout the workday.
- Ability to efficiently work while sitting in one place for a 12-hour shift.
- Eligible to legally work in the United States
- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating schedule which will include nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to work as part of a team and deliver value to the team
- Willingness and ability to cross-train to learn new jobs and skills
- Consistent, predictable attendance
The Crane Operator will be regularly required to work in various weather conditions. Other conditions include regular exposure to noise, dirt, grease, water, and sawdust. The Crane operator role is also a position on our production shift. It is subject to the DUPONT scheduling system, which rotates 12-hour day and night shifts throughout the month. Shift employees work on average 15 out of every 28 days.
