Job Title:
Chemical Operator (Rotating 12 hour shifts)
Job Description
This role is responsible for safely manufacturing chemical blends and products to meet customer specifications and production schedules. The Chemical Operator ensures personal safety, product quality, and production efficiency while operating reactors and related systems, as well as filling, loading, and unloading equipment. The position requires strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), OSHA regulations, and documented batch processes to maintain consistent, high-quality output in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate production equipment, including reactors and auxiliary systems, while continuously monitoring process conditions, key performance metrics, equipment, and control systems to maintain desired production rates and conditions.
- Perform manufacturing activities such as accurately weighing and charging raw materials into vessels and tanks, and transferring products from vessels to storage tanks and other containers.
- Complete raw material verification processes to ensure that only correct and approved raw materials are charged into production systems.
- Follow company policies, principles, procedures, standards, and practices to maintain safe, reliable, and compliant operations at all times.
- Apply cGMP principles and practices in all work assignments, using training provided on applicable cGMP requirements.
- Read, record, and interpret data from instruments, reactors, pumps, and related equipment, adjusting processes as needed to maintain efficient and safe operations.
- Understand key process variables that impact product quality and consistency, and use this knowledge to control, troubleshoot, and optimize production processes.
- Maintain work areas to GMP housekeeping standards and assist with general cleanup to ensure a clean and organized production environment.
- Support organizational goals of zero workplace safety incidents and actively participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs.
- Mentor and train new and existing personnel on process operations, promoting best practices and safe procedures.
- Safely operate forklifts, lifts, and hand trucks to move materials and products as required.
- Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers during production activities and process improvements.
- Accurately document data on batch records, graphs, and charts to ensure complete and compliant production records.
- Assist with inventory of materials to maintain adequate supplies for ongoing production.
- Support the implementation and optimization of new chemical engineering processes or production techniques.
- Comply with all company and OSHA safety standards applicable to work areas and tasks.
- Comply with all applicable FDA and Quality standards in daily operations.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support overall production and facility goals.
Essential Skills
- Introductory-level chemical production experience, including exposure to reactors, pumps, and weighing operations.
- Ability to operate and monitor production equipment, including reactors and auxiliary systems, in a manufacturing environment.
- Capability to read, record, and interpret data from instruments, reactors, and pumps, and make appropriate process adjustments.
- Basic computer knowledge to support data entry, documentation, and interaction with control systems.
- Basic understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLC) sufficient to work with automated or semi-automated systems.
- Basic math skills to support accurate weighing, measuring, and documentation of materials and process data.
- Strong attendance and punctuality, with a willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Effective interaction with multiple functions and diverse individuals to achieve production and quality goals.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to document work and collaborate with team members.
- Strong reading, listening, and comprehension skills to follow procedures, safety guidelines, and work instructions.
- High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate execution of procedures and documentation.
- Demonstrated decision-making and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Customer-centric mindset, focusing on delivering high-quality products that meet customer specifications.
