This position serves our residential students, caring for students aged 5 to 20.
This position may require communication modalities dependent upon employment placement.
Responsibilities- Provide direct care to students, including but not limited to medication, first aid, and emergency medical assistance.
- Conduct nursing assessments, treatments, medication, and medical care for all students as needed for routine and acute visits.
- Maintain accurate medical records by recording and reporting student symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Report pertinent medical information regarding students to the school physician and/or Nursing Administrator.
- Dispense medication and other treatments, arrange appointments and follow‑up visits with the school’s Medical Director and/or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
- Prepare medications and paperwork for field trips and delegate medication administration, when appropriate and allowed by state law, to an approved Unlicensed Assistive Personnel.
- Perform other related nursing duties as assigned or required.
- Coordinate the organization of documentation as directed by DHEC, Medicaid, and SCSDB policies and procedures.
- Create and maintain Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and complete all documentation required for compliance with health care regulations.
- Provide supervision and instruction to other medical professionals and paraprofessionals in the care of students.
- Serve as the liaison between school health services, parents, physicians, and other related medical disciplines.
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing program (Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree).
- Holds a current South Carolina RN license issued by the State Board of Nursing.
- Has at least three years of full‑time nursing experience.
- Possesses knowledge of school nursing practice and DHEC requirements related to schools (preferred).
- Demonstrates considerable knowledge of the principles and practice of nursing.
- Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and prepare/present educational programs to non‑medical and medical personnel.
- Capable of making independent decisions and performing work independently.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to develop, foster, and promote good interdisciplinary relationships with nurses, teachers, dorm staff, parents, physicians, etc.
- Clear, professional, and grammatically correct verbal and written communication and presentations.
