The Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional surgical nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with the surgical team.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled cases.
- Work alongside surgical teams to ensure patients receive the best possible care.
- Serve as a liaison between the surgical team and patients' families.
- Organize supplies needed for patients.
- Assess patients before, during, and after surgery and maintain a sterile operating room.
- Perform count procedures to protect patients from unintended retained foreign objects and intervene to ensure correct surgical site, side, and level.
- Perform interventions throughout the surgical procedure to maintain the status of the patient’s systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid‑base balances at or above baseline levels.
- Administer medications in accordance with physician orders.
- Actively involve patient or designated support person in decisions affecting their postoperative plan of care and rehabilitation process.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing or higher.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice and/or hold an active Compact/Multi‑State RN license.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of previous perioperative nursing experience.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
