The Specialist – General Crafts performs skilled work in roofing, painting, carpentry, caulking, sheetrock installation and repairs, paving, concrete, plumbing, electrical, and installation of classroom equipment to sustain Horry County Schools assets. The role promotes a safe, clean, and supportive learning environment, adheres to safety procedures, and maintains equipment and vehicles in a proper condition.

• Coordinate with assistants and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
• Ensure all activities comply with laws, codes, and safety standards.
• Conduct inspections of buildings, equipment, and grounds to identify and correct hazards.
• Prepare work sites, cover furniture, and mask off areas for protection.
• Match paint colors, mix, and apply paint while selecting proper tools and equipment.
• Perform carpentry tasks including cabinet installation, door fitting, window framing, and roof construction.
• Assist with installation or removal of classroom equipment such as whiteboards and cubbies.
• Inspect and repair recreational and gymnasium equipment.
• Execute general welding and metal repairs.
• Maintain roof seams, gutters, downspouts, and drainage systems.
• Install exterior wall sheathing, soffits, fascia, and trim.
• Complete concrete finishing work including form building, mixing, pouring, and patching.
• Perform roof inspections, remove or repair roofing materials, and provide preventive maintenance.
• Replace or repair floor and ceiling tiles, acoustic ceilings, and carpet.
• Read blueprints and take off materials to determine quantities needed.
• Maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles, including fluid checks and cleaning.
• Operate commercial trucks, personnel lifts, and other machinery safely.
• Support maintenance functions such as scaffolding cleaning and traffic direction during roadway repairs.
• Prepare reports, logs, accident reports, and other documentation.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
• Respond to emergency situations after hours.
• Transport tools and supplies to job sites.

• High school diploma required; technical degree preferred.
• Minimum three years of trade‑based experience.
• Trade certifications preferred (e.g., MASC, NCCER).
• Commercial contractor license or certification preferred.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license or CDL with endorsements.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions for job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of manual tasks, safety practices, and equipment usage.
• Proficiency with ropes, hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment.
• Basic computer skills for data entry, emails, work orders, and School Dude.
• Strong communication with supervisors, employees, departments, and the public.
• Ability to use or repair small and medium equipment, including vehicles.
• Knowledge of standard spacing, measurements, and layout for trade tasks.
• Capability to guide and train other employees.
• Strong arithmetic, volume estimation, and material measurement skills.
• Experience with School Dude or similar systems for tracking job status and inputs.
• Physical capability: lift up to 100 lbs; work at heights up to 40 feet with ladders or lifts; sit, stand, and operate tools for extended periods; maintain vision and hand‑eye coordination.
