Maintenance Mechanic – Sumter, SC

Nature of Work

This position involves routine and preventative maintenance tasks across Sumter Housing Authority properties. The incumbent is responsible for planning and executing repair assignments, determining maintenance needs, and performing skilled trades as required.

• Carpentry repairs
• Appliance repair
• Electrical repair
• Plumbing repair
• Sheet‑rock repair
• HVAC repair and maintenance
• Painting and related preventive maintenance activities
• Minor landscaping duties
• Preparation of vacant apartments for occupancy
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls when required

• Thorough knowledge and experience in construction and maintenance trades
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to follow established policies and procedures
• Physical strength and agility to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions
• Capability to interact effectively with co‑workers, residents, and the public

Performance is evaluated by the Maintenance Supervisor based on the quality and timeliness of completed assignments, consistency with policies, and ability to interact effectively with co‑workers, residents, and the public.
