Position: Software Manager, Middleware (Hybrid in Oak Brook, IL)

Position Summary

This position is responsible for applying software‑engineering knowledge to the day‑to‑day management of a team related to the software development and implementation of myQ middleware software. The middleware consists of web services, databases, and APIs. Projects may include New Product Development, Productivity, Sustaining, or Advanced Development projects. The individual will contribute to making the myQ Software product a best‑in‑class, competitive, and interactive user experience.

The ideal candidate will solve complex engineering problems, recognize gaps in processes, and recommend solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day‑to‑day project execution of one team, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget, and high‑quality delivery to guarantee system reliability.
  • Develop the functional plan, including resource effort, schedule estimate, and cost, for new and active projects.
  • Perform 18‑month project forecasting for one team and account for direct‑report project time accounting.
  • Define the functional design approach and technical feasibility for multiple projects, collaborating with key technical personnel from a single team.
  • Ensure functional process compliance and maintain standards‑based documentation across architectural views.
  • Monitor and meet key performance indicators (KPIs) for the functional group.
  • Document, communicate, and maintain architectural principles and standards across projects and product life cycles.
  • Manage code branching strategy, release process, and verification steps for mobile applications and websites from development to QA to production.
  • Expand and mature multi‑platform continuous integration and continuous deployment processes and tools.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the functional area.
  • Execute 1–3year technology roadmap projects.
  • Plan and track annual expense and capital budget for the team.
  • Develop training plans for direct reports to enhance core competencies.
  • Approve functional deliverables, pull requests, and CAB tickets for all direct reports.
  • Ensure design quality through participation in design reviews and serve on the Change Authorization Board as an alternate.
  • Build cross‑functional relationships with operations and development functions.
  • Collaborate proactively with end‑to‑end software architecture and back‑end MyQ technical teams to maintain a best‑in‑class, consumer‑facing connectivity experience.
  • Comply with information security requirements and ISO‑27001 security roles and responsibilities.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines and maintain compliance across the team.
  • Protect the company’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, networks, and professional societies.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results and participating in projects as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field; an additional 4years of job‑related experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
  • Advanced degree in a directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of job‑related experience.
  • 7years of job‑related experience and 3years of software development leadership experience.
  • Experience in middleware or back‑end IoT system development using C#, .NET, or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience in defining architectural specifications to create quality software.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.
  • Skills to train a technical staff on functional subjects, processes, and tools.
  • Skills to create functional schedules and accurately estimate task completion time.
