Highway Maintenance Worker - Equipment Operator

Job Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor such as clearing debris from rights‑of‑way, cutting trees, litter pick‑up, and weed eating around signs.
• Operate 5 yard dump truck in hauling material and equipment to job sites.
• Operate dump truck with snow removal and salt brine application equipment during winter weather operations.
• Operate equipment such as tractors with large mowers to mow shoulders and rights‑of‑way.
• Assist with placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones.
• Serve as flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones.
• Operate small equipment such as brush chipper, self‑contained sweeper, tractor with broom, and tractor with mower (≤ 10 ft wide) during various maintenance operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• No mandatory minimum training or experience requirements.
• Must hold valid motor vehicle operator’s license at entry.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

The physical demands for essential functions involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must walk for extended periods, tread rough terrain, work near motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. Must be willing to work outside the normal scheduled work week, especially during inclement weather.
