Job Responsibilities
- Perform Bridge Crew Equipment Operator duties for Holly Hill Bridge Maintenance Unit.
- Carry out skilled manual labor and operate light to heavy‑weight tools such as circular saws, drills, band saws, chainsaws, grinders, and jack hammers safely and productively in activities related to construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
- Operate medium equipment, including skid steers or tandem dump trucks.
- Operate small equipment such as concrete mixers, single‑axle dump trucks, forklifts, snow plows, spreaders, sweepers, tractors, or rollers.
- Operate CDL and non‑CDL vehicles in accordance with state fleet policies, including inspecting vehicles and equipment and notifying supervisors of any issues.
- Coordinate placement of traffic‑control devices to properly set up and maintain a work zone per the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to warn motorists.
- Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations and be available for extended hours, 12‑hour shifts, or times outside the normal work schedule or location.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- One (1) year of related work experience, or an approved acceptable equivalence.
- Valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license. A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required and must be attained within six (6) months of placement.
- Physical demands include bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods on rough and uneven terrain, working close to traffic and environmental hazards. Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, oil, or grease. In emergency situations swimming may be necessary.
