Job Description

The Courier safely performs pickups and deliveries within the city and surrounding areas, ensuring that products and materials reach the correct destinations on time. This role supports daily logistics operations by transporting items, assisting with loading and unloading trucks, verifying received goods, and completing related documentation. The position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with hospital personnel and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled pickups and deliveries within the city and surrounding areas, ensuring timely and accurate service.
  • Collect incoming products and materials and deliver outgoing items at designated times and locations.
  • Transport products and materials to specified locations, following established routes and procedures.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks, including boxes, supplies, and other materials.
  • Verify quantities and conditions of received goods against documentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Forward related paperwork and delivery documentation to the appropriate department promptly.
  • Handle recordkeeping tasks related to shipping, receiving, physical inventories, and quality control checks.
  • Use scanners and related equipment to record materials and track inventory and deliveries.
  • Pick orders and stock shipments according to established processes and safety guidelines.
  • Provide professional, courteous customer service to internal and external stakeholders, including hospital personnel.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with team members and hospital staff regarding deliveries and logistics.
  • Use computers, Microsoft Office, and email systems such as Outlook to manage orders, send updates, and process invoices.
  • Follow transportation, logistics, and order management procedures to ensure accurate and efficient workflow.
  • Operate company vehicles, including box trucks, in a safe and responsible manner in compliance with traffic laws and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean driving record and adhere to all safety and quality standards while on the road.
  • Support inventory and material handling activities to keep supplies organized and readily available.
  • Participate in a team-oriented environment, contributing to a positive and collaborative atmosphere.
  • Be available for overtime when needed to meet operational and delivery demands.

Essential Skills

  • 4–5 years of experience as a courier, preferably in a logistics or delivery-focused environment.
  • 4–5 years of experience working in customer service roles.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record maintained throughout employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Familiarity with the Charleston area and surrounding locations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with hospital personnel and internal teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform recordkeeping tasks, including shipping and receiving documentation, physical inventories, and quality control checks.
  • Proficiency with computers, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using email systems such as Outlook for communication and order coordination.
  • Inventory and material handling experience in a logistics or transportation setting.
  • Ability to stand on feet for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Physical ability to pick orders and stock shipments safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to use scanners to record materials and track inventory.
  • Experience driving and working with trucks and box trucks in a delivery environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to interact professionally with clients and staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a courier in a healthcare environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, and order management processes.
  • Knowledge of material handling best practices in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Comfort working with technology and adapting to new systems and equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere and support colleagues.
  • Quality control awareness and attention to detail when handling products and documentation.
