We invite Registered Nurses to join our Level 2 Women and Infant Services Labor & Delivery/Post Partum/Continuing Care Nursery at Banner Del

E. Webb Medical Center. The unit provides care for obstetrical cases 32 weeks gestation and older, low‑risk mothers and infants, and those seeking midwifery care. Services include 24‑hour neonatal nurse practitioners, anesthesia, and upcoming OB hospitalist coverage. The unit contains 13 LDR rooms, 2 operating rooms, 5 triage evaluation beds, 19 postpartum rooms, and a 14‑bed continuing‑care nursery with two Eat‑Sleep‑Console or Family‑Centered Neonate care rooms.

Approximately 170 mothers and babies are cared for each month in a family‑centered environment that encourages exclusive breastfeeding.

Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The RN is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction and uses specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan appropriate care for patients across physical and developmental ages.

Functions
  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; reviews history, physical, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results; completes assessments and reassessments per policy.
  • Formulates a plan of care, including discharge plans, based on assessment data and patient/family input; sets realistic, measurable goals; considers cultural and psychosocial needs; collaborates with the multidisciplinary team; reviews and revises plan as patient status changes.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the healthcare team; follows physician orders, nursing plans, and meets policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision; communicates accurately with other caregivers.
  • Evaluates patient, family, and teaching responses; revises plan of care as needed; evaluates progress towards goals with team.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; documentation is legible, timely, and policy‑compliant; records objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient response; notes physician orders accurately.
  • Provides evidence‑based care; may participate in research activities; engages in unit or facility shared leadership; participates in education, orientation, and precepting/mentoring of staff, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Contributes to society by improving patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care; engages in national nursing quality improvement and professional organizations.
  • May supervise staff and workflow in some roles.
  • Interacts with all staff levels, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts (e.g., other health institutions, community providers, agencies). Works with clergy for spiritual support and synthesizes data from multiple sources to support patient and family needs.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (or temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure).
    • BLS certification required.
    • Existing or ongoing experience in the clinical area of assignment; for acute‑care settings, a minimum of one year of RN experience in an acute‑care hospital within the past 12 months.
    • Required clinical performance competencies demonstrated through annual validations.
    • If applicable: possession of a valid driver’s license, active auto‑insurance coverage, and, where required, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card or Arizona Criminal History Affidavit.
    • For physician or hospitalist service areas, required professional certifications per service requirement.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
    • Professional certification (e.g., CRNA, CHNA, CPNP) preferred.
    • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
