As a Certified Patient Care Assistant in the Observation unit, you will operate in a fast-paced outpatient setting designed for continued testing and treatment to determine admission and discharge needs. You will serve patient populations including, but not limited to:
- PCU services: cardiac drips, CHF, strokes, post-catheterization care, and more
- Medical-surgical services including various medical diagnoses and pre/post-surgical care
- Provide routine patient care to promote comfort and support the patient care plan; assist with activities of daily living, mobility, and nutritional intake
- Collect patient specimens and data (vital signs, intake/output, delegated measurements); document objective data and assist in the transportation of specimens
- Recognize abnormalities and changes in patient status; communicate status to licensed professionals and other caregivers
- Perform procedures and use equipment as delegated by a licensed professional (e.g., blood draws, Foley catheter removal, EKGs, EKG monitoring); provide supplies and assistance for unit procedures
- Perform receptionist/clerical duties to support department operations and assist in problem resolution
- Maintain complete patient records, ensure charting forms are accessible, and assist in ordering and processing physician orders in the electronic medical record
- Maintain supplies and reconcile orders; monitor use and location of electronic equipment (e.g., patient , laptops)
- Assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and immediate post-operative patients to appropriate areas
- Work under supervision with a focus on customer service; interact with staff, patients, families, and physicians
- Part-time, night shift, 2 nights per week
- Full-time, night shift, 3 nights per week
- Hours:
7:00 PM – 7:30 AM - Weekend rotations required; 18% night shift differential and flat $1/hour weekend shift differential when applicable
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- Current BLS certification required
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice required for new hires and transfers (Tucson: CNA required; existing Tucson incumbents may not transfer out without meeting CNA requirement)
- 1 year of medical clerical experience preferred (hospital or physician office setting) or prior customer service experience
- Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills; knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy
- Ability to meet ECG/EEG interpretation requirements as applicable (minimum passing score 85% and/or unit-approved courses or on-the-job training)
Note:
Some roles may require specific credentialing or location-based requirements. Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and related disclosures may be required for certain behavioral health positions.
- Arizona Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure preferred
- Recent healthcare experience; unit secretary program completion is preferred
- Additional related education or experience preferred
