Educational Interpreter

Big Walnut High School is hiring a full‑time Educational Interpreter. The contract begins with the start of the 2026‑2027 school year, spans 183 days, and the schedule/hours are to be determined. Employment will be completed through the ESC of Central Ohio.

Provide interpretive services to facilitate communication between an elementary student with hearing and/or communication disabilities and others, including parents, in a public school setting.

• Assist the student in school activities, meetings, and other necessary functions.
• Serve as interpreter for hearing‑impaired parent(s) during school‑related meetings.

• Valid ODE interpreter license for the hearing impaired
• Provide current and clean BCI and FBI background checks upon hire
• Comply with drug‑free workplace rules and board policies
• Self‑directed, congenial disposition, and strong interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated proficiency in spoken English

• Experience working with individuals with hearing impairments
• Ability to provide interpretive services in a variety of settings
• Proficient in communication skills including:
• American Sign Language, Pidgin Signed English, and Signed Exact English
• Skill in using alternative forms of communication (e.g., gestures, mime)

Commensurate with experience and in accordance with the specified salary schedule.
