Overview
Are you looking to kickstart a career in the Highways Maintenance industry? Sunderland City Council has a strong commitment to apprentices and training. As an Apprentice Road Marker/Groundworker, you will be provided with unparalleled support throughout the duration of your programme.
You will develop the skills you need for the job by working alongside experienced colleagues whilst gaining hands on experience at the same time as working towards a Groundworker Level 2 qualification delivered by Derwentside College (on-site).
Responsibilities- Carry out all types of road marking duties ensuring compliance with specification, quality standards, and in accordance with all current relevant codes of practice and legislation.
- Be fully competent in the removal of road markings.
- Be fully competent in the applying of road markings including lines, letters, logos, etc.
- Be fully competent in the removal and installation of road studs.
- Erect and dismantle temporary traffic management including cones, signs, temporary traffic lights, barriers, etc.
- Plan and organise works directly from drawings, specifications, or work instructions.
- Measure and mark out works in accordance with current TSRGD regs, and calculate and order materials as required.
- An awareness of Health and Safety issues, risks, etc., in a highway maintenance environment.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a willingness to give feedback throughout the programme.
- Flexibility/ability to adapt.
- Self-motivation and ability to work on own initiative.
- You must be able to work in all weathers.
- A genuine interest in developing a career in Highways Maintenance.
