Position: Early Childhood Instructional Assistant for Anthony On Track Prek (Current GISD Employees Only)

Job Description

Due to the high volume of reference surveys and some issues we’ve encountered with the process, we have updated our application requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follows National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs serving children from birth through eight years of age.
  • Assists the certified teacher in implementing an instructional program which meets the total developmental needs of children (e.g., physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs) and includes health care, nutrition, safety, and multicultural sensitivity.
  • Assists the certified teacher during home visits and parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Promotes Pre‑K education and assists in recruitment of students for Pre‑K programming.
  • Assists the teacher in planning and implementing parent meetings and events such as “Literacy Night”, “Family Math Night”, “Science Night”, etc.
  • Attends staff meetings and all required trainings and meetings.
  • Participates in home visits and parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Assists in planning and attending parent involvement events.
  • Supports student recruitment and promotion of the Pre‑K program.
  • Communicates effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Help prepares and organizes instructional materials.
  • Supervises children in the classroom and during off‑site activities.
  • Assists the teacher in supervising students while on site or on field trip(s).
  • Works as a team member to effectively facilitate the total operation of program goals and objectives.
  • Displays a desire and enthusiasm for working with young children.
  • Uses time effectively, is punctual, and has good attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or active enrollment in a degree plan toward an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, with completion of 6 credit hours in Fall and Spring semesters and submission of grades and schedules to the Program Director.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Refer to Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.
Education and/or Experience
  • New Mexico Public Education Department Level III Educational Assistant License.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • A passing score on the Para Pro exam (457), or
  • A minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit from a regionally accredited college or university, with at least 15 of those credits in Language Arts (3 hours), Mathematics (3 hours), Writing (3 hours), and Reading, Writing, Math Readiness, or Professional Education (6 hours).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • New Mexico Public Education Department Level III Educational Assistant License.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: A passing score on the Para Pro exam (457), or a minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit with specified major requirements.
Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
