Intern, R&D Graduate Summer - Thermal, Fluid & Aero Sciences, HybridSandia's Thermal, Fluid, and Aero Sciences group is seeking Graduate Summer Interns to conduct basic and applied research on thermal, fluid, and aero phenomena related to national security. You will be mentored by staff engineers and will work closely with test engineers and technologists to conduct this research. A successful graduate internship will provide you exposure to work in a national laboratory environment and relevant engineering experience.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Assist staff in the Thermal Fluid, and Aerosciences group with various work projects
Conduct computational simulation in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, particle dynamics/mechanics, or aero sciences.
Perform surrogate and/or data-driven modeling in these topic areas.
Participate and contribute to experiments including wind tunnel testing, laser diagnostic measurements, high-speed imaging, rheological characterization, among others.
Conduct engineering analysis on experimental and computational data.
The internships available span multiple engineering and science disciplines, including:
Mechanical Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Computational Science
Applied Mathematics

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range:
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Note:

Qualifications We Desire:
Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills.
Experience with laboratory test setup, test execution, and test documentation.
Experience with data analysis software (e.g., Python, Matlab) and data acquisition equipment (e.g., NI/Labview)
Experience with mechanical design tools (e.g, Solidworks).
Experience with computational simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, Abaqus, US3D, among others).
