Summary
Maintain, repair, build, fabricate, and troubleshoot equipment used in the manufacturing of PE pipe products. Works with electricity, hydraulics, welding, machine shop equipment, and pneumatics. Uses a variety of shop tools and hand tools to perform work required. Maintenance of building and other support functions is also a critical aspect of this position. Uses the UpKeep maintenance program for plant maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Works at following and promoting company safety rules and policies and following accepted safe work practices.
- Safely operate forklifts to move equipment and materials to and from the production areas, scales, warehouse, etc.
- Safely operate the man‑lift and observe weight and height limits.
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts.
- Start devices to test their performance.
- Set up and operate drill press, hydraulic press, and cut‑off saw. Use various hand and shop tools to make repair parts and equipment.
- Fabricate new equipment or modify existing equipment to meet production requirements.
- Possesses essential mechanical skills to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and make proper repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance on extrusion equipment and other related fields as needed.
- Perform minor tune‑up and maintenance on forklifts.
- Know the basic extrusion process and assist the production department in all aspects of PE pipe manufacturing.
- Supply your own hand tools.
- Communicate well with other employees and operators to determine repair problems needed.
- Assist other employees when needed and work successfully in a self‑managed work team.
- Be a self‑starter and perform duties with little direct supervision.
- Attend required training sessions and wear required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and other safety equipment that might be required for certain jobs.
- Be willing to learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and welding knowledge is required, with the ability to read schematics in all related areas.
Computer SkillsExperience with computers and basic keyboarding skills.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Ability to work with the metric system.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in changing situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to make accurate and timely decisions in a stressful environment.
