JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
Bus Driver
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Supervisor
UNIT CLASSIFICATION: PSE Transportation
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This position safely operates school buses under all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to fog, rain, sleet, snow, and ice. Responsibilities include transporting students and other authorized persons over regular "to and from school" routes, and on field, co-curricular, and special or extra activity trips as authorized by the school district officials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The majority of time spent on this job is in the operation of a school bus and with wait times outside or indoors, between runs. The Driver is required to use all standard safety equipment, including but not limited to a fire extinguisher and first aid kit materials. Potential exposures include, but are not limited to, chemical, diesel, grease and oil fumes, fuel, grease and oil, blood-borne pathogens, inclement weather, and heavy traffic patterns.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent and demonstrated skill in reading, writing, and communication.
Previous commercial or bus driving experience preferred.
Successful completion of the WSP and FBI criminal background check.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Above-average knowledge and skill of equipment operation.
Knowledge of or ability to learn area and routes of school district buses.
Knowledge of policy and procedures of the district and transportation department.
Ability to communicate clearly with students, parents, staff, and the general public.
Sufficient strength and agility to lift and carry ill or physically impaired students.
Excellent hearing and vision capabilities.
