The Library and Recreation Services Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Recreation Services Coordinator, with one current vacancy in Event Permitting and Facilities. This position supports the preparation and maintenance of City facilities such as the Community Center, City Hall, park facilities. This position will also include set up and breakdown of conference/event rooms, ensuring conformity to City policy, fostering a clean and welcoming environment for all visitors, and assist with theater rentals by reviewing stage and lighting plans to support safe and efficient operations.
The Assistant Recreation Services Coordinator also serves as an on-site contact who will be supervising events on evenings and weekends, assisting customers, and supporting part-time and contract staff. Additionally, this position will assist with casual staff scheduling. The ideal candidate will have experience in theater or performance venue environments and is customer-focused, enjoys hands‑on work, and supporting community spaces and programs.
The anticipated schedule for this position will work Tuesday through Saturday with adjusting hours depending on rentals, division events and programs.
The list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill future Assistant Recreation Services Coordinator positions in Event Permitting and Facilities.
Under general supervision from a Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Division professional staff, assist in the planning, organizing, implementing, and marketing of a recreation program and/or community service; provide technical staff assistance; and perform other duties as assigned.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThe Assistant Recreation Coordinator position may exercise skill and experience in a particular area of recreation programming and may be assigned to: sports, facilities, and aquatics; youth and teens; special populations; or marketing and events. This classification is distinguished from the higher-level Recreation Services Coordinator I/II in that the Assistant Recreation Coordinator is not responsible for the full scope of the program and program delivery.
Based on the assignment, additional training, certifications and/or licenses may be required.
- Assist in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating of a community service and/or recreation program.
- Interact with participants, parents, and community members.
- Oversee the use of facilities ensuring participants follow established policies and procedures.
- Prepare community service and recreation publicity related to assigned programs and disseminate approved publicity.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; prepare reports, maintain files and records related to the program.
- Operate a computer using word processing and business software and other office equipment.
- Determine and implement the appropriate course of action in emergency and/or stressful situations.
- Creatively problem‑solve; understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Establish, maintain, and promote positive and effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Demonstrate initiative and exercise good judgment in the performance of duties.
- Learn the operation, policy and procedures of the Library and Recreation Services Department.
- Work independently and as a team member; recognize and set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Make contractual recommendations to supervisors.
- Respond to requests for information and program complaints.
- Provide first aid for minor injuries to participants and the public.
- Assist in the training, supervision and evaluation of assigned contract or casual staff.
