What does a Head of Commercial do at WPP Production?

The Head of Commercial is responsible for ensuring smooth commercial operations for a particular Client. Responsibilities include client financial relationship management, business development and strategy, and financial project management.

Key responsibilities
  • Partner with Global Commercial, Operations and Account Management teams to drive Client commercial growth
  • Manage financial aspects of assigned accounts including development, review, and management of SOW, time of staff estimates, construction of fees, account reviews, profitability analysis, and utilization, working closely with Client Stakeholders and Client Procurement
  • Interface with other WPP Production commercial client teams to ensure global consistency
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of the global contractual obligations such as MSA’s
  • Provide regular strategic insights to Client on a monthly and quarterly basis that focus on high‑level strategy within WPP Production’s areas of production expertise. These may include competitive analysis, market overviews, case studies, and strategy planning.
  • For each global RFP or RFI, develop a proposal outline, a proposal schedule and coordinate with the Account leadership to track, access, and pursue the opportunity
  • Apply experience and best practices to build and manage proposal knowledge exchange and templates globally
  • Establish and execute global review process communicating upcoming events, priorities, and deliverables to sales leadership; disseminate information to the appropriate stakeholder, track and enforce action items; and identify issues and mitigations.
  • Interface with the regional Account teams to develop commercial strategies and solutions that will meet customer requirements as well as meet or exceed business goals
  • Provide global commercial support for creation and maintenance of commercial finance systems
  • Manage California P&L for WPP Production, in year budget, forecast and long‑term plan
  • Oversee the monthly billing and tracking of Client
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with a Business or Finance major, MBA a plus
  • 10 – 15 years of experience in Client Services industry, with at least 3 years working in a creative agency environment
  • Proven ability to lead global finance and accounting teams
  • Thorough understanding of technology business and the competitive landscape to provide sound counsel
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems based on sound commercial knowledge
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience working in advertising production is ideal
  • Expert client relationship skills including presenting to clients, dealing with multiple stakeholders, and ability to think on your feet
  • Must be able to interact with Senior/Executive Management of WPP Production and Client
  • Must be commercially astute and able to work in a fast‑paced, fluid environment
